Tea sachets give you a full cup of whole-leaf tea with the measuring already done. Harney & Sons sachets are mesh pyramids, while our teabags hold finely cut tea in paper. One sachet brews one 12-ounce cup, which makes sachets an easy choice at your desk, at home, or on the go. They come in tins of 20 and 30, refill bags of 50, boxes of individually wrapped sachets, and miniature Tagalong tins.
The collection spans three families, with a few oolongs and white teas besides. Among the black teas are Hot Cinnamon Spice, with three cinnamons, orange peel, and sweet cloves; Paris, fruity with vanilla, caramel, and a hint of bergamot; and English Breakfast, toasty and mellow with hints of honey. The greens include Japanese Sencha from Shizuoka, Dragon Pearl Jasmine, and Organic Green with Citrus & Ginkgo. The herbals include Chamomile, Peppermint, and African Autumn, a rooibos blend with hibiscus and orange peel. To brew, put one sachet in a 12-ounce mug: black teas and herbals take boiling water and about five minutes, and most greens prefer 175°F water for about three.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between a tea sachet and a teabag?
It comes down to the leaf. Our sachets hold whole-leaf tea in a mesh pyramid, while our teabags hold finely cut tea in paper. Many of our blends, including Hot Cinnamon Spice, Paris, and English Breakfast, come in loose leaf, sachets, and wrapped teabags, so the choice is about your routine: loose leaf suits a pot and a strainer, and sachets and teabags are easy for a single cup or for travel.
How many cups does one tea sachet make?
One. Each sachet brews one 12-ounce cup of tea. For iced tea, brew a black tea like Paris or English Breakfast double strength (two sachets for the same 12 ounces of water), then pour it over a tall glass of ice.
How long should a tea sachet steep, and how hot should the water be?
It depends on the tea. Black teas take boiling water, 212°F, and four to five minutes. Most green teas prefer 175°F water and about three minutes, and Japanese Sencha likes it cooler still, 160°F for two to three minutes. Herbals take boiling water and about five minutes. Most of our tea pages also list that tea's own time and temperature.
How much caffeine is in your sachets?
Our caffeinated black teas have about 40 to 60 mg of caffeine per cup. Green teas contain caffeine too. Most of our herbals, such as Chamomile, Peppermint, and African Autumn, are caffeine-free, though blends made with yerba mate or yaupon, like American Buzz, do contain caffeine. For the flavor of Hot Cinnamon Spice without the caffeine, try Herbal Hot Cinnamon Spice, made with rooibos.
How should I store tea sachets?
Keep them closed up in their tin or bag between cups. Our bags of 50 sachets are resealable to keep the tea fresh. When a tin runs empty, refill it from a bag of 50 or recycle it.
Do you sell individually wrapped tea packets?
Yes. Our boxes of individually wrapped sachets keep each one in its own wrapper, handy for travel or for sharing with a friend. Our Tagalong tins, most of which hold five sachets, are made for travel and small gifts.
